UV Arc Lamp Ballast and Irradiators

UV Arc Lamp Ballast

The UV arc lamp ballast, model UV-Hi-Watt, is an intelligent, high-power, dual processor controlled solid-state switching power supply that consists of two power stages, a square wave AC output converter & igniter for powering either a mercury vapor or halide arc lamp, and an auxiliary DC power supply for providing 3.3V and 24V for logic and cooling fans. The Hi-Watt ballast is designed to be configurable for factory or customer software, by means of a serial port, allowing the ballast to adapt to a wide range of lamp types and utility power sources. This capability will allow the unit to power one or two lamps in series, in the range of 1kW to 9kW, with lamp voltages of 200V to 800V, from single or three phase AC sources of 208/240/480V 60Hz and 200/230/380/415V 50Hz. This feature makes the Hi-Watt ballast a truly universal arc lamp ballast that will allow it to be utilized as a single unit solution for powering many types of lamps from power sources worldwide. The UV-Hi-Watt ballast will effectively support an arc length up to 24 inches in length at an output of 300wpi., longer arc lengths at 200wpi.

The Hi-Watt ballast has the ability to communicate to customer connected controllers or PC's via optically isolated digital logic signals, RS485 serial port or UCB port. The logic signals include status lines of lamp-ignited, lamp-ready, unit alarm, as well as control signals for lamp enable/disable and lamp-dimming. A lamp-cooling blower control is also provided, including a blower ON/OFF signal, airflow regulation and lamp-temperature monitoring. The ballast can optionally power 24V DC cooling fans and vary the fan speeds, either open loop or based on lamp temperature. The ballast may be networked to provide customer interface to multiple Hi-Watt slave ballasts from their serial ports. This option will allow an interface to either a single UV irradiator, or multiple UV lamp irradiators cascaded on a single high-speed production line, which can still be controlled and monitored as a single system with much higher power capability. The state-of-the-art UV-HI-Watt ballast is packaged in a robust sheet metal housing and weighs an incredible 23 lbs, a very manageable size, compared to the traditionally heavy, cumbersome, antiquated UV power supplies on the market. The Hi-Watt UV ballast is truly an intelligent ballast!

UV Arc Lamp Irradiators

LuminDynamics offers a family of UV arc lamp irradiators that are an excellent complement to the Hi-Watt UV arc lamp ballast. The design of these irradiators allow for cooling of the work surface, lamp seals, sockets and reflector without over cooling the arc lamp. The irradiator is a lamp housing/reflector assembly, consisting of a stainless steel housing, containing a linear reflector with an elliptical cross section. The sockets are placed so that the lamp arc is in one focal point of the ellipse, irradiator reflectors are available in either focused or flood reflection. The reflector is made of specially processed aluminum, which has both high UV reflectivity (90%+) and resistance to tarnishing and corrosion. Irradiators are available standard with center housing cooling, or as an option, housings that are end cooled.

Arc lamp irradiators are available from LuminDynamics in arc lengths of 4", 6", 8" 10", 12", 15", 18" and 24 inches. Please reference the chart above to obtain the length of the lamp's corresponding irradiator.

Please contact LuminDynamics for information relating to the recommended static pressure and CFM cooling for the arc length lamp of your choice.
